THE PHARYNX



We've arrived at the Pharynx! The pharynx is commonly known as the throat. It an approximately 5 inch long passageway for food and air. To get from the mouth to the pharynx you have to swallow your food.

To help you avoid choking on your food when you swallow it is the job of the epiglottis. Its job is to reflexively close the windpipe after we swallow.
